First Grade
The first year of Maple Bear Brno provides pupils with a solid foundation for a successful primary education. The school combines the Czech and Canadian curriculum, with half of the time spent teaching in English. Emphasis is also placed on tandem teaching, where a second teacher covers English language instruction. We also focus on individualised teaching so that our teachers are able to respond quickly and effectively to the needs of individual pupils.
General Information
At Maple Bear, we foster children's learning abilities through stimulating and diverse experiences. We teach them to think, problem-solve, explore, communicate, be independent, and work in teams. We promote both critical and creative thinking. The program is designed to educate children in all important areas - physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
All students and educators at our school wear uniforms. This helps avoid dividing children based on social or other differences and fosters a sense of belonging.
Daily Schedule/Curriculum
Each class has a maximum of 20 students. Education is delivered 50% in English and 50% in Czech. Subjects taught half in English and half in Czech include mathematics, history, geography (Science and World), visual arts (Art), music education (Music), and physical education (Sport). Czech language is taught purely in Czech, and English language is taught purely in English.
The curriculum at our school includes more hours compared to regular schools. Teaching always takes place in language blocks, with the first part of the subjects in Czech followed by a block of subjects in English. The language blocks alternate on different days, starting with English subjects and continuing with Czech ones. This way, children don't confuse the languages and maintain a clear overview of the lessons.
Quality guarantee
Half of the teaching is conducted jointly by two qualified educators - one Czech-speaking and one English-speaking - who assist children in case of language barriers. They also teach independently and seamlessly transition between lessons to ensure smooth delivery. Therefore, you don't need to worry if your child does not yet master one of the languages. They will handle the education without any issues.
Each Maple Bear school also undergoes regular quality control. A specialist in Canadian education carefully evaluates the academic performance of each educator and the school's operations based on a detailed and comprehensive checklist, ensuring a high standard of education and the reliability of Maple Bear schools.
Classrooms and Learning Centers
Classrooms are designed to allow simultaneous activities in groups, pairs, or individually. During lessons, children engage in various developmental activities and tasks at different themed stations, known as Learning Centers. This approach ensures that children don't spend the entire day sitting at desks but rather work interactively, in different places, and in different forms.
Student Assessment
Teachers monitor the progress of each student individually and act as mediators throughout the process. The program incorporates various activities with diverse goals, both individually and in groups. In the first year, students are not graded with marks but rather assessed using a scale that helps them develop necessary skills.
School Operation
The school is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. After the lessons, you can pick up your children, but they can also stay at the school club or participate in extracurricular activities and clubs.
Extracurricular Activities (Clubs)
Children can choose from a variety of extracurricular clubs held directly at the elementary school premises. More detailed information, along with pricing, will be provided before the start of the school year.
Food
Food is provided for children throughout the day. Catering is managed according to applicable regulations by the re.SET Food bistro.
