Senior Kindergarten (Grade Zero)

Maple Bear Brno's senior kindergarten is designed for students aged 5-6 who are not yet fully ready to enter the first grade of elementary school. This grade serves as a support grade where students are thoroughly prepared for the rigors of first grade. During the senior kindergarten, we focus on developing basic skills in Czech and English, mathematics and other areas to prepare students for success in the next level of education. This year also provides students with the space to adapt to the school environment and to develop social skills.

General Information

The Maple Bear Program supports children’s natural desire to learn through stimulating and varied experiences. We are teaching children how to think, how to problem solve, how to research, how to communicate, and how to be independent reflective thinkers.

The Elementary Program is designed to educate the whole child – physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

All students and teachers wear uniforms at our school. This helps increase the sense of belonging to a community and help to develop school team spirit and pride. Every Maple Bear school undergoes an annual inspection that covers everything from safety equipment to classroom performance. On a regular basis and drawing on the experience of training staff in schools, we review and update our curriculum to reflect the latest developments in the field of education and changes in local regulations and requirements.

Daily Schedule in the Senior Kindergarten

Each class has a maximum of 15 children, and more than half of the teaching is done by two qualified teachers – one Czech-speaking and one English-speaking, who assist children in case of language barriers. So you don’t have to worry if your child doesn’t yet speak one of the languages. They will handle the lessons without any problems.

Teaching in the first year takes place half in Czech and half in English, and is recognized as compulsory school attendance within preschool education.

A typical day at Maple Bear begins with children arriving at school for playtime and free time. This is followed by an educational block where children engage in various developmental activities in groups or individually. This is followed by a snack, playtime, lunch, rest activities, which replace children’s afternoon nap, and another educational block. The rest of the time spent at school is dedicated to free time or additional extracurricular activities.

Classroom
and Learning Centers

Classrooms are designed to enable simultaneous activities in groups, pairs, or individually. During the educational block, children carry out educational activities and tasks at various themed stations, in the so-called Learning Centers. Children at our school do not sit in desks during lessons but work interactively, in different places, and different forms.

Student Evaluation

Teachers monitor the development of each student individually and act as mediators throughout the process. The program uses various activities with many different goals, both individually and in groups.

School Operations

The school is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. After the end of the educational block at 2:00 pm, you can pick up the children, but they can also stay with us in the club or engage in clubs and other extracurricular activities.

Extracurricular Activities (Clubs)

Children can choose from various extracurricular clubs held directly at the elementary school. More information, along with the price list, will be provided before the start of the school year.

Food

Food is provided for children throughout the day. Meals are provided according to applicable regulations by the re.SET Food bistro.

Additional Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

Yes, the education in Maple Bear elementary schools is designed to harmonize the Canadian educational program with the Czech national framework educational program for school education. A team of Canadian education experts, after a thorough analysis of the requirements of national framework educational programs, has set up the Maple Bear school program to meet the outcomes set by the Ministries of Education in individual countries. Maple Bear schools enrich local educational systems with the best Canadian educational strategies and proven methods.

Is the school suitable for students who do not speak English?

Yes, at Maple Bear, students learn English without any problems. Our teachers help and facilitate communication for children using various methods, such as speech pace, phrasing and repetition, gestures, facial expressions, dramatic expression, and games. Children also learn through fun singing and joint performance of tasks, reciting poems, rhymes, and jingles, and through games. Teachers encourage and develop students' confidence in learning a new language by mostly correctly repeating their statements rather than correcting them.
